Last year I put my word wall on my cabinet doors and I used notepad shapes of trees (consonants) and squirrels (vowels). I called it "The Word Wall Woods" to go along with my camping theme. This year I decided to use clipart and type the letters onto these patterns to construct my word wall. I also decided to change the squirrels to owls (surprised, huh?) This year a huge magnetic whiteboard was installed in my room on my backwall (taking the last little bit of wall space I have. However, since it is magnetic I thought what a great place to put my class word wall. I plan on putting magnets on the back of my words and then adding them to the wall each week. Here is a picture of how it turned out:
I'm still wondering if there will be room for all our first grade words. But having them on magnets, I hope it allows more interaction with our words, especially during writing. So whooo wants a freebie? I know some of you have mentioned you also are doing a camping theme so if you would like these the file is below. Click HERE to download.
I also had shared in an earlier post about the new classroom rug I purchased. I forgot to post pictures so here are a few I took the other day. It already needs to be vacuumed ~ and please mind the mess.
That cute little red head in the second picture is my daughter. She went to school with me that day and helped me with all sorts of things. She's a great little helper.
Lastly, I'm going to share with you a picture of my six trait writing posters. Each poster has teaching points for each trait and they are removable from the poster (via velcro dots). They were all on colored construction paper when they were given to me, so I took them and put them on wood scrapbook paper to make them look like signs ~ say on a camping trail?
This is not the greatest picture. Hopefully when my classroom is finished, I will have better pictures to share.
Have a great weekend!
Very cute. You should link up to my Word Wall Linky Party.

Ms. M - Thanks for the invite. I did link up but I wish I would have posted about how I color code our words and where they stay before the words get posted on our wall. Maybe I can update later.
ReplyDeleteHadar - I totally know how you feel! I see all these cute themes out there and think ohhhh that would be cute! But after you collect so much stuff I hate to think about starting over. I would LOVE to go all owls, but hate to get rid of all my cute forest animals! Glad you liked it.

LOVE your word wall! I have mine on a magnetic dry erase board too and love having it there. You will too!
ReplyDeleteYour word wall is super cute! I even got my boyfriend to admit that he liked it. :)
ReplyDeleteMarvelous Multiagers!
I think you and I could have "twin" rooms! I just found your site today because of the name I love it! I am very partial to pokla dots and owls. I love your blog! I don't have much on mine but check it out! theplaidapple.com
ReplyDeleteI love that word wall and the theme! It looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteActually, I am painting a tree on my wall for my behavior management. Each student will be given a monkey to move up or down the tree (depending on his or her behavior), but I wanted to do more with it. Maybe I can somehow incorporate some of your great ideas with my monkey tree. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI am doing a camping theme in my room and I'm SO thrilled my teaching partner showed me your site :) I am getting so many great ideas! Do you have the 6 + 1 Writing Trails posters anywhere? Our school uses the same program and I would love to use them or try to make my own! Thanks!

Such cute ideas!!! I would also be interested in the writing traits posters. Another great idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Laurie
I LOVE the owls!
ReplyDeletewhere did you get the log letters? I love your ideas, SO helpful!!
ReplyDeleteThe log letters are actually a font I enlarge in word (like one letter to a page). I made the font color brown, cut out and laminated. I believe the font is called "woodbadge". Hope that helps. Smiles ~
ReplyDeletewhere did you find that rug??
ReplyDeleteI love your word wall, what a great idea to separate the consonants and the vowels! Very cute!
ReplyDeleteI was about to put up a word wall in my room and I decided to look online for some cute ideas. I LOVE yours! I am even doing a camping theme this year so it will go perfectly! One quick question...what font is The Word Wall Woods typed in? Or did you purchase the letters? Just wondering! Thanks so much for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteI used the font "schoolbell" to type the letters on the trees and owls. I think it is a free font. :)
